How much should a timber deck cost?

The price of a timber deck will obviously vary enormously depending on design and scale and timber used. A professionally designed and installed deck can be as little as £160 per square metre, subject to timber price increases which are moving at an alarming rate - however compared to other major home improvements, they compare very favourably.

My garden slopes away from the house. Can I still have a deck?

Definitely! This is one of the real advantages of timber decking. Because it is built over a frame, the lay of the underlying terrain is virtually irrelevant. So in place of a sloping garden, you will have a flat area on which to relax and entertain.

Where can I site my timber deck?

Anywhere - the choice is yours! Timber decks are highly versatile structures that can be located to suit you. Whether you want to enjoy your deck in a sunny open site, have it as a garden island or as a combined balcony and veranda, or place it in an intimate, shady spot - it's completely up to you.

Timber decks can be used for relaxing, entertaining, dining or as a play space for children and make functional, beautiful and relatively inexpensive extensions to any home.

Do I need planning permission?

Planning approval varies greatly between Authorities, dealing mainly with elevated platforms. If you are unsure then it is better to be safe and check with your local planning office.

The Quality Timber Decking Company highly recommend that you talk to all your neighbours about your plans. Statistically, neighbour objections are the most common reason for planning refusal or enforcement notices after completion of the work. Ultimately, local authorities have the power to ensure that un-approved structures be dismantled and removed.

Can I personalise my timber deck?

Yes - timber decks can be customised to your own decorative or stylistic tastes. Stain your deck to practically any colour you like, whether one of a huge range of natural wood colours - or in a bright fashion shade.

Similarly, the choice of additional design features - balustrades, trellis work, steps and so on - is yours. Additionally your decking can be extended, or another level or feature can be added in the future to enhance your enjoyment.

What other advantages does timber decking offer?

Using timber means that water drains away after rainfall, making them less slippery and cleaner than stone and are much softer underfoot than a conventional garden surface. They also look fantastic all year round, adding value to your home.
